ASH was commissioned by Green Highland Renewables to carry out and co-ordinate the Environmental Impact Assessment for Benmore Hydroelectric Scheme near Crainlarich in Stirlingshire.
The project comprises a 500kW run-of-river hydroelectric scheme on the Benmore Burn, which is located to the south side of the A85, approximately 3km to the east of Crianlarich. The proposal comprises one intake on the burn, an associated buried pipeline to convey water to the powerhouse, which after generating electricity is returned, unchanged to the burn.
What we did
ASH project managed the production of the Environmental Statement, providing specialist landscape and visual, land use, recreation and planning inputs and co-ordinated inputs from a number of specialist consultants under the topics of terrestrial and aquatic ecology, ornithology, cultural heritage and noise.
ASH advised Green Highland Renewables during the development of the design of the powerhouse to minimise any visual impact. The proposed powerhouse building was designed to appear as an extension to the existing adjacent farmyard building and the finish was designed to reflect the existing building.
The Outcome
Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park Authority approved the scheme in June 2014.
