ASH Design and Assessment has worked in the wind energy sector for over a decade helping our clients gain consent for large and small onshore wind developments throughout the UK

Our commissions range geographically across the UK, varying in size from single turbine schemes to major commercial developments including wind farm extensions and repowering developments.

Our role in wind energy projects spans the whole development process, from inception/feasibility, through options appraisal, screening/scoping, site layout and design iteration, environmental assessment (including cumulative assessment, Residential Visual Amenity Assessment (RVAA) and turbine lighting assessment) and expert witness at public inquiries/planning appeals. We have also coordinated applications and provided LVIA inputs into Section 36c and Section 42 Applications to vary existing consents.

Some of our projects have been located within, or close to, sensitive landscapes (e.g. wild land), designated areas (National Parks, National Scenic Areas, Special Landscape Areas, AONBs) and also in close proximity to well-used recreational areas and populated areas, so we are fully aware of the challenges such projects face.

In our experience, good design supported by practical environmental solutions and close consultation, has provided reassurance to our consultees and the public to ensure projects located in, or near, sensitive locations can be developed without significant detriment.

We have a strong history of wind farm work with developers within Scotland and throughout the UK. We are familiar with the Scottish, English and Welsh planning systems and have an extensive knowledge of the current legislation, policy and guidance as a result of being part of multi-disciplinary teams working on small-to-medium and large scale wind developments.
