ASH managed the environmental objection case for North Lanarkshire Council in the Gartcosh public enquiry.

ASH was commissioned in 1997 to manage the environmental case for North Lanarkshire Council, in their objection at the public inquiry into Powergen's proposal to construct a Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) Power Station at the former Gartcosh Steelworks, east of Glasgow.

Key Tasks

Landscape and visual impact site assessment

CCGT case research, N. England and N. Wales

What we did

ASH represented the council as expert witnesses in the fields of landscape character and visual assessment, ecology and environmental legislation and precedent. Issues that emerged include:

  • The relevance of environmental impact assessment at the outline design stage of a project.
  • The importance and status of the environmental statement at Public Inquiry.
  • The importance of site selection in the avoidance and mitigation of impacts.

The outcome for the Council was successful.
